This acceptance is the cornerstone of trusting His plan, even when it brings us pain.
Virtues & Benefits
This declaration serves as a profound reminder of our servitude to Allah and the transient nature of this world. It cultivates patience (sabr) and discourages despair and excessive grief. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that whoever says this upon a calamity, Allah will grant them His reward and compensate them for their loss (Sahih Muslim 918). It is a way to gain Allah's mercy and support during difficult times.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a servant of Allah is afflicted with a calamity, he says: *Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un* (Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we will return). O Allah, I ask for reward in my affliction and that You grant me something better in exchange for it.' Allah will grant him reward for the affliction and that he should say 'I return to Allah' (meaning, I accept Allah's decree). Allah will grant him something better in exchange for it.'
