When to Read
This powerful dua is to be recited when you feel threatened, overwhelmed, or directly confronted by enemies, whether they are people, difficult circumstances, or even internal struggles. It's a declaration of your faith that Allah is your ultimate protector and sufficient for all your needs. Recite it when facing opposition, injustice, or any situation where you feel powerless and need divine intervention. It's a statement of reliance, turning to the One who has absolute power.
How to Read
The beauty of this dua lies in its simplicity and directness. Raise your hands slightly, as if presenting your need to Allah. Recite it with sincerity and conviction, truly believing that Allah is capable of handling any enemy or difficulty. Imagine Allah's protection enveloping you as you speak. It's important to pair this dua with taking the necessary practical steps within your ability, as Islam encourages a balance between reliance on Allah (tawakkul) and effort (asbab).
Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies the essence of tawakkul, relying fully on Allah. When we turn to Allah in this manner, we are entrusting our affairs to the Almighty, who has power over all creation. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua during times of extreme hardship and threat, demonstrating that even in the face of formidable enemies, our greatest strength lies in our connection with Allah. It brings peace to the heart, knowing that no enemy can harm us without Allah's permission, and He is always sufficient for those who place their trust in Him. As Allah says: "And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him." (Surah At-Talaq 65:3)

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was with some of his companions when a man on a camel overtook them and then struck down his companions and the camel riders who were with them, and then killed their camels and took what was in their saddlebags. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I wish he were here now, so that we might deal with him." The companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you not like us to deal with him?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I have an aversion to him, because he has committed Polytheism." When the man came back and was on his way back to them, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I wish he were here now, so that we might deal with him." The companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you not like us to deal with him?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I have an aversion to him, because he has committed Polytheism." When the man came back again and was on his way back to them, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I wish he were here now, so that we might deal with him." The companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you not like us to deal with him?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I have an aversion to him, because he has committed Polytheism." When the man came back again, and was on his way back to them, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I wish he were here now, so that we might deal with him." The companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you not like us to deal with him?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I have an aversion to him, because he has committed Polytheism." So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "O Allah, suffice me against him with what You wish." And so Allah sent down upon him a fire from the sky, and it consumed him.
