حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ
Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. On Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.
HasbiyAllahu la ilaha illa Huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul 'arshil 'adheem.
When to Read
This powerful declaration is particularly significant when facing immense challenges, overwhelming fear, or difficult circumstances. It's the phrase of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he was cast into the fire, and it was also recited by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions when they were told that the people had gathered against them. Reciting it reminds us to transfer our worries and reliance solely to Allah, acknowledging that no challenge is too great for Him to handle.
How to Read
Recite this with a sincere heart, fully believing in its meaning. Focus on the words: 'Allah is sufficient for me.' Let that sink in. Understand that 'He is the Lord of the Great Throne' signifies His ultimate power and dominion over all creation. Trust that by placing your reliance on Him, He will manage your affairs. It's not just words, but a deep conviction and a conscious act of handing over your burdens.
Virtues & Benefits
The recitation of 'HasbunAllahu wa nimal wakeel' is a profound expression of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). The hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari (6306) mentions that when the believers were threatened, they said this, and it brought them immense comfort and strength. It is a shield against despair and a source of unwavering faith. When you truly rely on Allah, He becomes your protector and your advocate, ensuring your affairs are handled in the best possible way, as indicated by the phrase 'Nimal Wakeel' - 'The Best Trustee/Guardian'.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The most fearsome thing I fear for my Ummah is the misguidance of the<bos> (those who interpret the Quran according to their own opinions) and the misguidance of the Dajjal.' Ibraheem bin Adham (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah said to Isa (peace be upon him): 'O son of Mary, believe in Me, and rely on Me. The believer relies on Me in all his affairs, and I suffice him in all his affairs.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'When the believers were on Mount Uhud, they said: "HasbunAllahu wa nimal wakeel" (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs). So, they were given victory. When the disbelievers said: "HasbunAllahu wa nimal wakeel" (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs), they were brought down from a high place and brought down to a low place.' (This is a slightly longer narration with additional context often found in collections like Musnad Ahmad, but the core phrase and its significance regarding reliance are established in Bukhari.)
