اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ، اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي لِصَوَابِ الْأَمْرِ وَخَوَاتِمِهِ، وَقِنِي شَرَّ دُنْيَايَ وَأُخْرَايَ
O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have decreed for it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have decreed for it. O Allah, I ask You of Your abundant grace. O Allah, guide me to the right course of the matter and its consequences, and protect me from the evil of this world and the Hereafter.

It was narrated by 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach them the Istikhara prayer in all matters as he taught them Surahs from the Quran. He would say: 'If one of you intends to undertake a matter, he should perform two Rak'ahs of a non-obligatory prayer and then say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabaltaha 'alayh, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alayh. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlikal-'adhim. Allahumma ihdini li sawabil-amri wa khawatimih, wa qini sharra dunyaya wa akhirah.'
