Dua for Trusting Allah's Mercy and Plan During a Difficult Pregnancy

Trust in Allah
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6346

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the driver away of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitatbika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabia qalbii, wa nura sadrii, wa jila'a huznii, wa dhahaba hammii.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua is taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited when one is distressed. It directly addresses Allah by His unique names and attributes, acknowledging His absolute control and perfect justice. By asking for the Quran to be the source of solace, light, and relief from worries, it reinforces a believer's reliance on divine guidance and mercy during trying circumstances, like a difficult pregnancy. It shifts focus from the hardship to the immense power and wisdom of the Creator, fostering patience and trust in His decree.

Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'No person ever says, when a calamity befalls him, 'Verily, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return' (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un), but Allah will reward him for it. And what a reward it is! Allah says: 'These are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy, and it is these that are the guided ones' (Al-Baqarah 2:157). And when he says: 'O Allah, reward me in my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange,' Allah will give him the best reward. 'Abdullah said, 'When Abu Salamah died, I said, 'O Allah, reward me in my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange.' Allah gave me Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in exchange.' (The narrator said, 'Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was given in exchange for Abu Salamah.') Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say when he was in distress, 'La ilaha illallah Al-Halim Al-Karim. SubhanAllahi Rabbil-'arshil-'azim. Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabbil-'alamin.' (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Most Haleem (Most Forbearing) and the Most Karim (Most Generous). Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the great Throne. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.) Narrated Ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'If any person is afflicted with distress, and he supplicates Allah in this form: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your handmaid. My forelock is in Your hand. My fate is subject to Your command. I beseech You by every name that is Yours, which You have named Yourself by, or You have taught to anyone from Your creation, or You have revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief and a reliever of my anxiety.' Then Allah will surely remove his grief and compensate him with joy.' It was said, 'O Allah's Messenger, should we learn this?' He said, 'Yes, indeed. He who hears it should learn it.'
