The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no Muslim who suffers a calamity and then remembers what happened to him, even if it was a thorn or worse, and says: 'Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn' (Verily we belong to Allah and verily to Him we shall return), O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me in exchange that which is better than it, – but Allah will give him in exchange that which is better than it.' Umm Salamah said: 'And when Abu Salamah died, I said: 'Messenger of Allah, the men (meaning companions) were with me and they said the like of what is in the hadith. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Say: O Allah, forgive me and him, and grant me (from your bounty) a replacement after him.' So I said this, and Allah granted me Abu Bakr as a replacement, and he was better for me than Abu Salamah.' (Sahih Muslim 918)
