Dua for Entrusting Difficult In-Law Relationships to Allah (Tawakkul)

Trust in Allah
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5070

حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. On Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.

Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul 'Arshil 'Adheem.

When to Read

This powerful dua is for moments when you feel overwhelmed by challenges, particularly in navigating complex or strained relationships with in-laws. Recite it when you feel stressed, hurt, or unsure how to proceed, handing the reins to Allah. It's especially potent when spoken after every obligatory prayer, but can be recited at any time you need strength and peace.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction and full reliance on Allah. Understand that 'Hasbiyallahu' means Allah is enough for you in every aspect of your life. Place your trust ('tawakkaltu') in Him completely, acknowledging His ultimate sovereignty and power over all things, including your relationships. Speak it with a hopeful heart, seeking His wisdom and guidance in how to interact with your in-laws, and His protection from any ill effects.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a profound expression of Tawakkul (trust in Allah). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that whoever recites this seven times in the morning and evening, Allah will suffice him from all worldly worries and needs. It brings immense peace of mind, as it shifts the burden of managing difficult situations from our own limited capacity to the infinite power and wisdom of the Creator. For relationship challenges, it helps cultivate patience, forgiveness, and the ability to respond with kindness rather than frustration, seeking Allah's intervention for reconciliation and understanding.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah bin Khubaib (may Allah be pleased with him): We went out during a rainy and very dark night, searching for the Prophet ﷺ to teach us something to say. We found him and he said: 'Say: "<arabic>قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا أَغْنَى عَنِّي مَا عَلَّمْتَنِي اللَّيْلَةَ؟</arabic>" He said: 'Hold on to it and recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening.' He then mentioned another phrase, which I could not recall. Another narrator said: 'Say: "<arabic>حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ</arabic>"' (Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. On Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.) Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "<arabic>يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ، أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَةً مِنْ كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ؟</arabic>" (O Abdullah bin Qais, shall I not teach you a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise?) I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Say: "<arabic>لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ</arabic>"' (There is no might nor power except with Allah)."
