The Dua for Strength to Overcome Addiction

Success
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3974

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone among Your creation, or taught to anyone from Your knowledge, or sent down in Your Book, that You make the heart of the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sorrow, and the banisher of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a man complaining of anxiety and worry, directly addresses the need for inner peace and strength. The Quran offers guidance, healing, and hope, making it a powerful antidote to the despair that often accompanies addiction. This dua helps in seeking Allah's intervention to transform one's inner state, replacing negative desires with a focus on divine remembrance and purpose. It is a recognition of Allah's absolute power and a plea for His direct assistance in achieving inner peace and freedom.
