اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite when seeking lawful means for sustenance and striving towards financial independence. It can be recited daily, particularly after obligatory prayers, or at any time you feel the need to earnestly ask Allah for provision and freedom from need. It’s especially relevant when embarking on a new business venture, seeking employment, or working towards paying off debts.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and firm belief in Allah's ability to grant your request. It is recommended to raise your hands while making dua, as is the Sunnah. Begin by praising Allah and sending salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ensure your heart is focused on Allah, seeking His help alone. It's also beneficial to follow this dua with righteous action, working diligently and honestly towards your financial goals.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a profound request for both sustenance and contentment. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we are seeking protection from the temptations of haram earnings, which can bring worldly comfort but spiritual ruin. Asking for enrichment through His bounty signifies reliance on Allah alone, fostering a sense of independence from creation and cultivating gratitude. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was in debt, highlighting its efficacy in seeking relief from financial hardship and achieving self-sufficiency through Allah's grace.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A Mukatab (a slave who has a contract to free himself by paying a sum of money) came to him and said: "I am unable to pay my \[contractual\] money, so help me." He (Ali) said: "Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught you, and if you had the debt of 'Sir' (a mountain) upon you, Allah would pay it off for you? Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and suffice me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone but You."
