Success
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This powerful supplication, taught by the Prophet ﷺ, is specifically reported to be recited after the Fajr prayer. Imagine starting your day by asking Allah for these three fundamental blessings: knowledge that truly benefits, provision that is pure and sufficient, and actions that are accepted by Him. It sets the tone for your entire day, focusing your intentions on learning, earning, and acting in ways that please Allah. While the specific time after Fajr is mentioned, the beauty of this dua is that you can turn to Allah with this request at any point you feel the need for clarity in your understanding, purity in your sustenance, or acceptance for your efforts, especially when striving to embody the Sunnah. Any time you sit to study the Prophet's ﷺ way, or embark on a deed you wish to be accepted, this is an excellent dua to make.

How to Read

When you recite this dua, remember what you're asking for. It's not just a collection of words; it's a heartfelt plea and a profound act of worship. Take a moment to reflect on each part: * **'Ilman nafi'an (beneficial knowledge):** This means knowledge that draws you closer to Allah, knowledge that makes you humble, that increases your taqwa, and most importantly, knowledge that you can *act* upon. When we talk about understanding the Sunnah, we're asking for precisely this kind of knowledge – that which illuminates the path of the Prophet ﷺ and empowers us to walk it. * **Rizqan tayyiban (good provision):** This isn't just about money. It encompasses everything that sustains you – your health, your family, your time, and yes, your wealth – ensuring it is earned and used in a lawful and wholesome manner. Good provision supports you in practicing the Sunnah without distraction or burden. * **'Amalan mutaqabbalan (accepted deeds):** This is the ultimate aspiration for any Muslim. We exert ourselves in worship and good deeds, but ultimately, it is Allah Who accepts them. This plea acknowledges our reliance on His grace and mercy. Applying the Sunnah correctly and sincerely is a massive step towards having our deeds accepted. Recite it with sincerity, conviction, and a deep understanding of its meaning, knowing that you are seeking Allah's help in living a life that truly reflects the Prophetic example.

Virtues & Benefits

The immense blessings of this dua are woven into its very words. By consistently making this supplication, you are consciously aligning your efforts with the pleasure of Allah and seeking comprehensive success in your faith and worldly life. * **Guidance in Understanding the Sunnah:** When you ask for *'ilman nafi'an*, you're specifically requesting that your understanding of the Prophet's ﷺ life and teachings be sound, deep, and actionable. This helps you discern the authentic Sunnah from innovations and apply it wisely, rather than superficially. * **Purity in Sustenance:** *Rizqan tayyiban* ensures that your worldly means are pure, allowing you to focus on your spiritual journey without the burden of haraam earnings. A Muslim whose sustenance is pure finds it easier to worship Allah and adhere to the Sunnah with a clear conscience. * **Acceptance of Efforts:** The ultimate goal of following the Sunnah is to earn Allah's pleasure and have our deeds accepted. By asking for *'amalan mutaqabbalan*, we acknowledge our humility and dependence on Allah, striving to perform deeds according to the Prophetic example, hoping they will be counted on our scales. This dua, taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself, is a comprehensive request for success in both this life and the Hereafter, fundamentally linking righteous living, pure earning, and accepted worship to beneficial knowledge – the very essence of understanding and applying the Sunnah.
