Success
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5075

O Allah, Restorer of the lost, Guide of the lost, guide me to my lost (thing/opportunity), grant me well-being through Your well-being, for it is my trial and my loss.

Allahumma radhdha al-dhallati, wa hadiya al-dhallati, ihdini li-dhallati, 'afini bi-'afiyatika, fa innaha fitnati wa dhallati.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for when you realize you've missed a significant opportunity, whether it's a job opening, a chance for good deeds, or even a valuable possession that has slipped away. Recite it with sincere hope and a firm belief in Allah's ability to restore what seems lost. You can say it at any time, but especially when the realization of the missed opportunity hits you, or during your personal supplications.

How to Read

Begin with sincere intention and a humble heart. Address Allah directly. Pause to reflect on the 'lost' aspect – what opportunity or thing is it you are seeking to regain or gain from? Understand that 'lost' here can encompass more than just physical items; it includes missed chances for growth, forgiveness, or good deeds. Believe that Allah is the ultimate Restorer and Guide. This dua is not just about getting the opportunity back, but about receiving guidance and well-being through the experience.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly invokes Allah's attribute as the 'Restorer of the lost' and the 'Guide of the lost'. It seeks not only the return of what was missed but also Allah's guidance through the situation, recognizing that our trials are also tests. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua for recovering lost items, but its meaning is profound enough to extend to any missed chance or opportunity in life, asking Allah to guide us to what is best and grant us peace amidst our losses. The phrasing 'fa innaha fitnati wa dhallati' (for it is my trial and my loss) shows a beautiful acceptance and reliance on Allah, acknowledging that even loss can be a means of purification and testing.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught a dua for a lost camel. The narration is often understood to apply to anything lost, including opportunities. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'If any one of you loses something or a camel, let him say this dua: Allahumma radhdha al-dhallati, wa hadiya al-dhallati, ihdini li-dhallati, 'afini bi-'afiyatika, fa innaha fitnati wa dhallati.' Translation: 'O Allah, Restorer of the lost, Guide of the lost, guide me to my lost (thing/opportunity), grant me well-being through Your well-being, for it is my trial and my loss.' (Recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud 5075 and also alluded to in Sahih al-Bukhari 603 in the context of finding lost things.)
