Dua for Your Spouse's Emotional Healing from Past Hurts

Spouse
Sahih Hadith

O Allah, reform my spouse, guide them, suffice them, grant them victory, and bind them to Your love, Your fear, the love of Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the love of deeds that bring them closer to You. Release their heart from past sorrows and pains, and expand their chest for goodness and happiness.

Allahumma aslih zawji/zawjati, wahdihi/ha, wakfihi/ha, wansurhu/ha, wa alzimhu/ha hubbaka, wa khashyataka, wa hubba nabiyyika Muhammadin ﷺ, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuhu/ha ilayka, wa atliq saraha qalbihi/ha minal-ahzani wal-alami al-madiyah, washrha sadrahu/ha lil-khayri was-sa'adah.

When to Read

This dua is especially pertinent when you notice your spouse struggling with past traumas, unexplained sadness, or emotional blocks that seem to stem from previous experiences. Recite it during your personal supplications (dua), especially after prayers (salat), during the last third of the night, or whenever you feel a strong connection and desire to supplicate for them.

How to Read

Begin by making sincere intention for your spouse's well-being and healing. Face the Qiblah if possible. Raise your hands in supplication, placing one hand gently on your spouse's shoulder or chest if they are present and receptive, or simply place your hands as you would during any personal dua. Recite with a heartfelt plea, focusing on the meaning and seeking Allah's mercy and power to heal. It's beneficial to also practice patience, understanding, and offer emotional support to your spouse alongside this dua.

Virtues & Benefits

Making dua for a spouse is a beautiful act of worship that strengthens the marital bond and reflects the Islamic emphasis on mutual support and care. While this specific phrasing is a synthesis of prophetic supplications for self-reform and general well-being, it draws from the spirit of numerous hadith encouraging us to pray for others. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "No Muslim servant supplicates for his brother who is absent, except that the angel says: 'And upon you be the like of it.'" (Sahih Muslim 2104). Praying for your spouse's healing can bring immense peace to their heart and contribute to a more harmonious and loving relationship, by Allah's grace.
