Dua for Safeguarding Marriage from Shaitan's Whispers

Spouse
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. And I seek refuge in You from stinginess. And I seek refuge in You from straying from the path. And I seek refuge in You from the whispers of the devils, and I seek refuge in You lest they be present with me.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Wa a'udhu bika minal-bukhl. Wa a'udhu bika min dalalatit-tariq. Wa a'udhu bika min hamazatis-shayatin wa a'udhu bika an yahdurun.

When to Read

Recite this powerful dua at any time, especially when you feel the marriage is facing subtle pressures, misunderstandings, or when Shaitan's whispers seem to be sowing discord. It's particularly beneficial to make this a habit during times of stress, before arguments, or as a regular supplication for marital harmony.

How to Read

With sincere intention and conviction, raise your hands (if possible) and recite this dua. Focus on the meaning and ask Allah with certainty. It is also beneficial to say it together with your spouse, making it a shared shield against Shaitan's attempts to harm your union. You can also blow gently on yourselves or your partner after reciting, as is sometimes done with such supplications.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua directly addresses the insidious ways Shaitan works to destroy blessings, including the blessing of a stable and loving marriage. By seeking refuge in Allah from the loss of well-being, sudden calamities, and His displeasure, we're fortifying our lives against external and internal harms. The specific mention of seeking refuge from the 'whispers of the devils' and 'lest they be present' is a direct plea for protection against their attempts to manipulate our thoughts and emotions, leading to marital strife, doubt, and resentment.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this comprehensive dua to his companions, which includes seeking refuge from the most significant dangers. It is narrated from 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge [in Allah] in this way: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.' ('O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the heavy burden of debt and the force of men.') [Sahih al-Bukhari 6369]. The version used here, found in Sahih Muslim 2708, is a broader and equally essential supplication that encompasses protection against the general decay of blessings and specifically against Shaitan's influence, which is a primary tool he uses against families and marriages.
