Spouse
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5742

In the name of Allah, the Lord of mankind. Remove the affliction, heal (him/her), You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.

Bismillaahi, Rabb-in-naas, azhib-il-ba's, ishfi, Antash-Shaafi, laa shifaa'a illaa shifaa'uka, shifaa'an laa yughaadiru saqamaa.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for reciting whenever your spouse is feeling unwell, experiencing pain, or suffering from any ailment. You can say it directly to them, or make it as a personal supplication for their well-being. It's a beautiful way to show your care and reliance on Allah for their recovery.

How to Read

Place your hand gently on the area of pain, if possible, while reciting the dua. Say it with sincerity, focusing your heart on Allah and His power to heal. Repeat it as many times as you feel necessary, with conviction and hope in Allah's mercy. It's also beneficial to combine this with other acts of worship like making sincere repentance (istighfar) and giving charity (sadaqah) for your spouse's health.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly calls upon Allah as the ultimate Healer (Ash-Shaafi) and acknowledges that no recovery is possible without His will. Reciting this dua demonstrates faith in Allah's power to alleviate suffering and shows your love and concern for your spouse by seeking the best for them. It brings comfort not only to the sick but also to the one making the dua, as it strengthens their connection with Allah during challenging times.

Source & Authentication

‘Uthman bin Abi Al-‘As (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: He complained to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ about a pain he felt in his body. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to him: "Place your hand on the part of your body where you feel pain and say: Bismillaahi (In the name of Allah) three times, and say seven times: A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir (I seek refuge in Allah and in His Power from the evil of what I feel and I am cautious of)." (Note: The specific dua provided in the main entry is a more general supplication for healing found elsewhere, attributed to the Prophet ﷺ when visiting the sick, but this hadith illustrates the principle of seeking healing through dua and placing a hand on the pain.)
