Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5074

O Allah, I ask You for Your pardon and Your well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for Your pardon and Your well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your Greatness lest I be destroyed from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'afwaka wa 'afiyataka fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'aluka 'afwaka wa 'afiyataka fi deeni wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi, wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimalee, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'azamatika an ugh'tale min taHtee.

How to Read

It's also recommended to supplicate for yourself and your entire family using similar comprehensive duas.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication encompasses seeking Allah's pardon ('afw) and well-being ('afiyah). 'Afiyah means being protected from all forms of harm, suffering, and trials, both physically and emotionally. By asking for 'afiyah for your spouse in their religion, worldly life, family, and wealth, you are seeking comprehensive security and safety for them in every aspect of their existence. The latter part of the dua specifically asks for protection from all directions, acknowledging Allah's infinite power and the need for His safeguarding against unseen dangers.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this comprehensive dua to his uncle Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked him to teach him something to ask Allah for. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'O Abbas, O my uncle, you have asked me for a great thing. Indeed, your Lord is Great and Blessed is His Name. You should say: O Allah, I ask You for [the fulfillment of] Your covenant and the cause of forgiveness, and I ask You for richness (to be free from want) in goodness in the world and in the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for contentment after the decree, and I ask You for a pleasant life after death, and I ask You for the sweetness of looking at Your Face (i.e. Your Countenance), and I ask You for the yearning to meet You without any hardship or trial that would bring evil. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us, O Allah, guided ones, the guided ones. And do not make us those who lead astray or are led astray. O Allah, I ask You for the Paradise and what brings me closer to it, in word or deed, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and what brings me closer to it, in word or deed. And I ask You that You make every decree that You decree for me good.' Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You for Your pardon and Your well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your Greatness lest I be destroyed from beneath me.'
