Spouse
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 2995

O Allah, guide my husband/wife, forgive him/her, and grant him/her obedience to You. Grant us Your love, and forgive us our past and future sins. Grant us righteous deeds that You love and are pleased with.

Allahumma ihdi li zawji/zawjati, waghfir lahu/laha, warzuqhu/rizqaha ta'atak, warzuqna hubbak, waghfir lana ma taqaddama min dhanbina wa ma ta'akhkhar, warzuqna 'amalan salihan tuhibbuhu wa tardahu.

This comprehensive dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly potent during the quiet hours of the night (qiyam al-layl), after prayers, or during times of supplication like Friday. It's an excellent addition to your daily routine, especially after Fajr or Asr prayers, aiming to seek Allah's blessing for your spouse and your relationship.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, visualizing Allah's acceptance. Begin with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Raise your hands as you normally would for dua, making sure to specify 'zawji' (husband) or 'zawjati' (wife) as appropriate. Focus on the meaning of each word, asking Allah to fulfill these beautiful requests for your partner and for your union.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking guidance for your spouse is a profound act of love and a weighty responsibility. It reflects your commitment to their well-being in this life and the hereafter. This dua encompasses seeking forgiveness, cultivating obedience to Allah, fostering mutual love for the Creator, and asking for acceptance of righteous deeds. It’s a holistic prayer for a spouse who is pleasing to Allah and contributes to a blessed family life, seeking Allah's pleasure not just individually but as a couple. This prayer can strengthen the bond between spouses by aligning their hearts and actions towards pleasing Allah, leading to a more harmonious and spiritually enriching marriage.

Source & Authentication

The narration often cited for similar supplications mentions the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying: 'Pray for your leaders, for indeed they have the same fate as yours.' While this specific dua isn't found verbatim in the major collections attributed directly to the Prophet ﷺ in this exact phrasing, its components – seeking guidance, forgiveness, obedience, and righteous deeds – are deeply rooted in the Sunnah and Quranic teachings. Scholars have compiled such comprehensive supplications based on the general principles of asking Allah for the well-being of one's spouse and family, drawing from various authentic narrations. For instance, the Prophet ﷺ said: 'The best of you are those who are best to their wives, and I am the best to my wives.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5217). This highlights the importance of actively seeking good for one's spouse.
