اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ لِبُعُولَتِنَا وَاجْعَلْهُمْ قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ لَنَا.
O Allah, make us the coolness of the eyes for our husbands, and make them the coolness of the eyes for us.
Allahumma ij'alna qurrata a'yunin li bu'oolatina waj'alhum qurrata a'yunin lana.
When to Read
This is a beautiful dua for married couples, especially during times of reflection, after salah, or when seeking to strengthen their marital bond. It can be recited individually by the husband or wife, or together as a couple, to ask Allah to grant them mutual contentment and joy in each other.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt desire for Allah to bless your marriage. Focus on the meaning of 'coolness of the eyes' – a state of deep satisfaction, comfort, and joy that prevents one from being displeased or distracted by anything else. Imagine your spouse being that source of peace and happiness for you, and you for them. Raise your hands as you would in other supplications, or place your hand over your heart and recite it.
Virtues & Benefits
The concept of being the 'coolness of the eyes' (قُرَّةُ عَيْنٍ - qurratu 'ayn) signifies deep contentment, joy, and satisfaction. When a spouse is the 'coolness of the eyes,' it means they bring immense happiness, peace, and a sense of fulfillment that makes one forget worries and sorrows. This dua aims to foster a marriage where both partners find solace, comfort, and profound joy in each other's presence, making their union a source of spiritual and emotional nourishment. It seeks to create a harmonious environment where love, understanding, and mutual respect flourish, leading to a blessed and stable family life.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Three things are a source of joy for the believer: meeting the brothers (in faith), breaking the fast (at night), and the night prayer.' In another narration, it mentions: Narrated Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Four things are from the blessings of Allah: a righteous wife, a spacious house, a good neighbor, and a comfortable means of conveyance.' This specific dua is attributed to the practice of seeking such a state within marriage, often taught by scholars based on the understanding of Qur'anic verses and the general emphasis on maintaining harmony and affection in marriage, such as Allah's statement in Surah Al-Furqan 25:74: '...and make our spouses and our offspring the coolness of our eyes, and make us an example for the righteous.' While the direct quote is found in Sunan Ibn Majah, the underlying principle is deeply rooted in Islamic teachings about the importance of spousal affection and contentment.
