اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone other than You.
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This is a powerful dua that can be recited anytime, especially during moments of reflection, after prayers, or when your spouse is facing a particular challenge or opportunity at work. You can make it for your spouse when they begin their workday, or when they express feelings of stress or dissatisfaction. It's about seeking Allah's blessing for their provision and contentment in their efforts.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincerity and heartfelt conviction. Raise your hands as you do, following the Sunnah. Visualize your spouse finding lawful means to sustain themselves and feeling a sense of contentment and independence through Allah's grace in their work. Recite it regularly, perhaps after Fajr or Asr prayer, making it a consistent part of your supplications for your partner.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah for two vital things concerning one's livelihood: sufficiency through lawful means and independence from relying on creation. When applied to a spouse's work, it means seeking Allah's help for them to earn a living that is pleasing to Him, free from any element of haram, and to feel satisfied and self-sufficient through His grace, rather than through the fickle favor of others or excessive worldly possessions. It fosters a mindset of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and contentment with His decree in the realm of earning a living.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my wealth is dwindling and my situation has become difficult." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Recite the dua of the angels in the heavens: "اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ" (Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak). If you recite it once, Allah will suffice you. If you recite it once a day, Allah will suffice you for three years. If you recite it every Friday, Allah will suffice you for seventy years." (Reported by At-Tirmidhi and graded as Hasan by him, though some scholars have differing opinions on its authenticity).
