اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, so that I may not need what You have made unlawful, and make me free by Your grace, so that I may not need the favour of any other than You.
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This is a powerful and comprehensive dua that can be recited regularly for your spouse's business, particularly at the start of the day, after prayers, or during times of specific need or challenge. It's about seeking Allah's provision and protection from unlawful means. You can also make this dua specifically when your spouse is embarking on a new venture or facing financial pressures.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on Allah's ability to provide. It's recommended to raise your hands as you do for other supplications. Ensure your intention is pure, seeking lawful sustenance for your spouse and reliance solely on Allah. You can say it daily for ongoing blessings or in moments of earnest supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses seeking lawful provision and independence from needing to ask of others. By asking Allah to suffice us with the lawful ('halal') and to enrich us with His bounty ('fadl'), we are essentially asking for a business that is blessed, ethical, and free from unlawful gains. It fosters reliance on Allah (tawakkul) and contentment with His decree. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for a way to pay off his debts, demonstrating its efficacy for financial well-being.
Source & Authentication
Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was a man who had a lot of property but little wealth, and I had incurred debt, so I went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and told him about it. He said: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you utter them, Allah will remove your debt, even if it were as much as to fill the entire world?' I said: 'Yes, by all means.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I am not in need of anyone other than You.' (Sahih Muslim 1051)
