Spouse
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3842

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This beautiful and comprehensive dua is best recited after the obligatory prayers (Fardh salah). It's a powerful supplication to make consistently, especially when you observe your spouse struggling with a lack of motivation or a tendency to delay important tasks. You can also make it during the times when duas are more likely to be answered, like the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. Making it a part of your personal supplications regularly will allow its blessings to permeate your home and family life.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincere intention and full conviction in Allah's power to change circumstances. Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Begin by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Then, recite the dua itself with earnestness. Focus on the meaning: asking for knowledge that benefits, sustenance that is pure, and deeds that are accepted by Allah. This last part is crucial for overcoming procrastination – it's about wanting to do deeds that are actually meaningful and pleasing to our Creator, which naturally combats idleness. You can repeat it multiple times or ask Allah specifically to help your spouse overcome laziness and procrastination.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encompasses three of the most vital aspects of a fulfilling life. 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('Ilman Naafi'an):** This isn't just academic knowledge, but knowledge that leads to righteous action and understanding of our Deen. When one has beneficial knowledge, they understand the importance of their responsibilities and the consequences of laziness. 2. **Goodly Provision (Rizqan Tayyiban):** This refers to lawful, pure, and sufficient sustenance. When a person's provision is blessed, they have the energy and capacity to focus on their tasks without the distraction of constant worry or lack. 3. **Acceptable Deeds ('Amalan Mutaqabbalan):** This is the ultimate goal – to perform actions that Allah accepts. Laziness and procrastination often stem from a lack of motivation or a feeling that one's efforts are in vain. By asking for deeds to be accepted, we are asking for the ability to act in ways that are pleasing to Allah, which in turn fuels genuine productivity and purpose. Reciting this dua aims to rectify the root causes of inaction by seeking spiritual and practical enablement from Allah.
