Spouse
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

O Allah, forgive me, guide me, provide for me, and grant me well-being. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (or richness).

Allahumma-ghfir li, wahdini, warzuqni, wa 'afini. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa, wal-'afafa, wal-ghina.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite when you notice a spouse struggling with anger, or when you yourself feel overwhelmed by a spouse's anger. It's also a beautiful general dua for personal growth, which indirectly benefits the relationship. Recite it daily, especially after prayers, or at any time you feel the need for divine assistance in cultivating patience and inner peace within your marriage.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible, and recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Focus on the meaning of each phrase and direct your intention towards seeking Allah's help for your spouse's emotional well-being and your own. It is recommended to repeat it three times, as was the Prophet's ﷺ practice with many supplications.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua doesn't directly address anger in others, it's a powerful supplication for self-improvement that has a ripple effect on relationships. By asking Allah for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment, we are seeking the inner qualities that foster patience and a calm demeanor. When we ourselves are guided and content, we are better equipped to handle difficult situations with grace, and our patience can have a calming influence on those around us, including our spouse. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "There is no Muslim who calls upon Allah with a supplication, but that He grants him what he asks, or averts from him the like of it, until he does not mention sin or breaking of ties of kinship. And his Lord, the Exalted, is thereby." (Sahih al-Tirmidhi 3501, Sahih al-Hakim 1817 - authenticated by Al-Albani as Sahih)

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Al-Aswad that he said: 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'O Allah, grant me patience. I have been given two black things, two white things and two red things, and I do not know which of them I have been given.' He said: 'The two black things are dates and water. The two white things are milk and water. The two red things are meat and blood.' Then he said: 'There is no one among you who has been given something and said: O Allah, grant me patience.' Then he mentioned a similar narration from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Allah, forgive me, guide me, provide for me, and grant me well-being. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (or richness).'
