Dua for a Spouse to Be a Source of Encouragement in Times of Doubt

Spouse
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 18477

O Allah, I ask You for a righteous spouse who will help me in obeying You, remind me if I forget, strengthen me if I weaken, and be a support for me in my life and an aid in my affairs.

Allahumma inni as'aluka zawjan wa zawjatan salihah, tu'inuni 'ala ta'atik, wa tudhakkiruni idha nasit, wa tuqawwini idha da'uft, wa takunu sanadan li fi hayati wa mu'inan li 'ala amri.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when facing personal doubts, spiritual struggles, or difficult life decisions. It's a prayer for a partner who can be a source of strength and faith, helping you navigate challenges together. Recite it during times of reflection, especially after Salah, or at any moment you feel the need for divine guidance in selecting or nurturing your marital relationship.

How to Read

Raise your hands as you would for any supplication. Begin with praise of Allah (e.g., Alhamdulillah, SubhanAllah) and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Make this sincere dua from the heart, visualizing the qualities you seek in a spouse or appreciating those qualities in your current partner. End with a final blessing upon the Prophet ﷺ. It is best recited with a clear heart and mind, seeking Allah's pleasure.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication seeks a partner who is a blessing, not a burden. A righteous spouse acts as a mirror, reflecting our good deeds and gently pointing out our shortcomings, helping us stay on the straight path. They are a source of strength when our own faith wavers, a reminder of Allah's presence, and a pillar of support through life's inevitable trials. Such a partnership amplifies our ability to worship Allah and face life's complexities with resilience and shared purpose.

Source & Authentication

Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad: Abu Al-Yaqzan, from Jarir, from Al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from Al-Aswad, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Ask Allah for everything, even the shoelace, for if it is not obtained except from Allah, then it is from Allah.' This narration, while not directly about the spouse, sets the principle that seeking everything from Allah is permissible and encouraged. The dua provided is a well-established supplication used by scholars and the righteous for seeking a pious spouse who aids in devotion.
