Sleep Duas
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6312

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

All praise is due to Allah, Who revived us after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

*Alhamdulillahilladhi ahyana ba'da ma amana wa ilaihin-nushur*

When to Read

This is the first dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite immediately upon waking from sleep. It’s meant to be said before you even move or let your mind wander to the day’s tasks.

How to Read

Upon opening your eyes after waking, pause for a moment. Take a breath and consciously remember that your life and ability to wake is a gift from Allah. Recite this phrase with sincerity, acknowledging His power over life and death.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet profound declaration anchors our day in gratitude and remembrance of Allah. It's a powerful way to start by acknowledging the One who granted us this new day, reminding us of our dependence on Him and the ultimate return to Him. It sets a spiritual tone for everything that follows.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Prophet (ﷺ) got up for the night (to offer prayers), he would say: 'Allah is the Greatest! Glory be to Allah! Praise be to Allah! There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest! I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what I have wrought.' When he woke up from sleep and said this, he would say: 'All praise is due to Allah, Who has given us life after death, and to Him is the resurrection.'
