Sleep Duas
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2713

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, the Cleaver of the grain and the date-stone, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You are seizing by the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, so there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, so there is nothing nearer than You. Grant us relief from our debt and enrich us from poverty.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arshil-'adheem, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliqul-habbi wan-nawa, wa Munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injili wal-Furqan, a'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma Antal-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay', wa Antal-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay', wa Anta adh-Dhāhiru falaysa fawqaka shay', wa Antal-Batinu falaysa dūna ka shay', iqdi 'anna daynana wa aghnina minal-faqr.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is beneficial to recite before sleeping, especially when feeling a sense of isolation or a need for Allah's protection and provision. While it is particularly relevant for those sleeping alone, its universal benefits apply to all Muslims seeking Allah's safeguarding and assistance.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with full conviction in Allah's power and mercy. It's best to recite it after fulfilling the Sunnah duas for sleep, such as reciting Ayatul Kursi and the last three Surahs of the Quran. Raise your hands as you would during supplication and turn towards the Qiblah if possible, though this is not a strict condition for reciting any dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encapsulates seeking refuge in Allah from all potential harm, acknowledging His absolute sovereignty and control over all creation. It addresses the need for spiritual companionship through His remembrance and protection, while also seeking relief from worldly burdens like debt and poverty. Reciting it before sleep is a way to entrust oneself to Allah's care throughout the night, finding peace and security in His presence.
