Narrated by Abdullah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No one who says this invocation: 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem' (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on Earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) – three times, will be afflicted by a calamity unexpectedly.' Abdullah ibn 'Amr said: 'So 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr used to say it during the day. He was afflicted by a bout of boils. And the man who narrated this hadith to him (Abu Dawud) saw him being afflicted by a bout of boils. So he started to gaze at him. Then 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr said to him: 'What are you looking at? By Allah, I did not miss saying it once since I heard him say it.' Then 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr said: 'It was indeed what it was, but I did not miss saying it after I heard him say it.'
