When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when you feel the onset of a headache or migraine, or any pain in your head. It's a practical supplication to turn to the moment discomfort begins, seeking Allah's immediate intervention and protection.

How to Read

Place your hand where you feel the pain in your head. Recite 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) three times. Then, recite the full dua: 'A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru' (I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear) seven times. This practice, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, combines immediate acknowledgment of Allah's name with a profound plea for refuge.

By seeking refuge in His Power, we acknowledge His ultimate authority and sovereignty, fostering trust and reliance (tawakkul) in Him. ‘Uthman ibn Abi al-‘As reported: I complained to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ about a pain I had felt in my body since I became Muslim. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: 'Place your hand on the part where you feel pain in your body, and say: Bismillahi (In the name of Allah) three times, and say seven times: A'udhu bi'izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru (I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear).' ‘Uthman ibn Abi al-‘As said: I did that, and Allah removed the pain from which I had suffered, and I have continued to say it to my family and others.'
