O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhadik.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is particularly poignant when contemplating severe illness or any situation where one fears losing Allah's favor and well-being. Recite it regularly, especially in the morning and evening duas, as it encompasses seeking protection from a wide range of potential misfortunes that could lead to a terminal state, be it spiritual or physical.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a deep sense of reliance on Allah. It's best to raise your hands slightly, as is customary for many duas, and to turn towards the Qiblah if possible. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase, understanding that true protection comes only from Allah. Make it a habit to recite it after every obligatory prayer as well, internalizing the plea for continued divine protection.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a powerful shield against the loss of Allah's grace and health. It goes beyond specific illnesses to seek refuge from the very causes that could lead to ruin, including the sudden withdrawal of divine blessings and health ('afiyah). By seeking refuge from 'all of Your displeasure,' we aim to align our lives with what pleases Allah, thus earning His protection from all harm, including the fear of a terminal illness.
