Dua for the Sick During Hajj

Sickness
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3892

In the name of Allah, our Lord, Allah, who is in heaven. Hallowed be Your name. Your command is in heaven and on earth. Just as Your mercy is in heaven, make Your mercy on earth. Forgive us our sins and mistakes. You are the Lord of the good things. Send down a cure from Your cure and a medicine from Your medicine upon this pain, so that it may be healed by Your permission.

Bismillahi, Rabbana Allahu alladhi fis-sama'i, taqaddasa ismuk, amruka fis-sama'i wal-ardi, kama rahmatuka fis-sama'i, faj'al rahmataka fil-ardi, ighfir lana khataayana wa dhunubana, anta Rabbut-tayyibeen, anzil shifaa'an min shifaa'ika, wa dawaa'an min dawaa'ika 'ala hadhal-waja'i, fa yabra'a bi-idhnik.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recited when visiting a sick person, especially when that person is undertaking the sacred journey of Hajj. It's a moment when pilgrims are intensely focused on Allah, seeking His mercy and ease amidst the demanding rituals. Reciting this dua acknowledges Allah's ultimate power over sickness and recovery, reinforcing reliance on Him, especially in a place as blessed as the Haram.

How to Read

Place your right hand on the part of the sick person's body where the pain is felt. Recite the dua seven times with sincerity and conviction, seeking Allah's complete healing. It's also recommended to accompany this with general supplications for the sick, such as the Prophet's ﷺ own dua: 'Allahumma Rabbi anzhilil-ba'sa, ilahiya wa 'afiya' (O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the disease, restore [him/her] to health).

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance on Him alone. It acknowledges Allah’s dominion over all creation, His sacred name, and the pervasiveness of His command and mercy. By seeking healing directly from Allah’s 'shifaa' (cure) and 'dawaa'' (medicine), we affirm that true recovery comes only from Him. For a pilgrim, especially one facing illness far from home, this dua offers immense spiritual comfort, reminding them that Allah's mercy and care are with them wherever they are, even in the midst of Hajj.

Narrated 'Uthman bin Abul-'As (may Allah be pleased with him): He complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about a pain he felt in his body from the time he had become Muslim. So Allah's Messenger ﷺ said to him: 'Place your hand on the place where you feel pain in your body and say: 'Bismillahi, Rabbana Allahu alladhi fis-sama'i, taqaddasa ismuk, amruka fis-sama'i wal-ardi, kama rahmatuka fis-sama'i, faj'al rahmataka fil-ardi, aghfir lana khataayana wa dhunubana, anta Rabbut-tayyibeen, anzil shifaa'an min shifaa'ika, wa dawaa'an min dawaa'ika 'ala hadhal-waja'i, fa yabra'a bi-idnik.' He said: 'So I did that and Allah removed the pain from me and I continued to say it to my family and those who were present among my children.' — Sunan Abi Dawud 3892
