I seek protection for you both with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous crawling creature, and from every evil, envious eye.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited for newborns and children, especially in their early years. It's particularly beneficial to recite it upon seeing or holding the child, or as a regular practice, perhaps morning and evening, to invoke Allah's protection against any harm, illness, or the evil eye.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite this dua for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them). It is recited by placing the hand on the child's head or body and repeating the words sincerely, with complete reliance on Allah. It's encouraged to recite it three times, as the Prophet ﷺ did for his grandsons.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a beautiful example of seeking refuge in Allah and utilizing the specific supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ. It invokes Allah's perfect words for protection, safeguarding the child from visible and hidden evils, including spiritual threats (devils), physical ailments (poisonous creatures), and the harmful effects of the evil eye. It fosters a sense of spiritual security for the child and peace of mind for the parents.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah for Hasan and Husayn, saying: 'I seek protection for you both with Allah’s perfect words, from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Abraham (Ibrahim) used to seek refuge in Allah with these same words for Ishmael and Isaac (peace be upon them).' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3371)
