Sickness
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5743

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the suffering. Heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no disease behind.

Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm. Allāhumma Rabb an-nās, ad-hibil-ba's, shfi, anta ash-Shāfī, lā shifā'a illā shifā'uka, shifā'an lā yughādiru saqaman.

When to Read

This powerful dua is specifically for times of sickness, especially when facing a chronic or seemingly incurable ailment. It can be recited directly by the ill person or by a loved one on their behalf. Recite it during moments of deep reflection, after prayers, or anytime you feel the need to turn to Allah with sincere supplication for healing and ease.

How to Read

Begin with the Basmala (Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim). Recite the dua with full concentration, picturing Allah's mercy and power. Place your hand on the afflicted area if possible, or raise your hands in supplication. Believe firmly in Allah's ability to heal, even when human efforts fall short. Repeat this dua frequently, making it a regular part of your supplications.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the core of seeking healing from the Ultimate Healer. It acknowledges that true recovery comes only from Allah (SWT). By reciting it, we are asking Allah to not only cure the symptoms but to eradicate the root cause of the illness, leaving no trace behind. It's a profound expression of Tawakkul (reliance) on Allah, acknowledging His dominion over health and sickness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she was ill, demonstrating its importance and efficacy as a spiritual remedy.

Source & Authentication

The Mother of the faithful, 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated that when any one of them took ill, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to rub the chest of the patient with his right hand and used to say: ‘O Allah, Lord of mankind! Remove the disease, heal it and You are the Healer. There is no healing but the one You bestow; a healing that does not leave behind any ailment.’ (Sahih Muslim 2191 - Note: the wording in Bukhari 5743 is slightly different but carries the same meaning.
