Sickness
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5743

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the suffering. Heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no ailment behind.

Bismillāhir-raḥmānir-raḥīm. Allāhumma Rabban-nās, adh-hibil-ba’s, ishwfi antash-Shāfī, lā shifā’a illā shifā’uka, shifā’an lā yughādiru saqaman.

When to Read

This dua is perfect to recite when you or someone you know suffers an injury from an accident. Place your hand on the injured area, recite Bismillah, and then recite this powerful supplication. It's a direct request to Allah, the ultimate Healer, acknowledging His power and our dependence on Him for recovery. Recite it with sincerity and conviction, believing in Allah's ability to grant a complete cure.

How to Read

It is Sunnah to place your hand on the site of the pain or injury. Begin with Bismillah (In the name of Allah). Then, recite the full dua. Focus on the meaning and the immense mercy of Allah. It's beneficial to repeat this seven times, as mentioned in some narrations related to similar duas for healing, though the primary hadith for this specific dua doesn't specify a number of repetitions. Sincerity, conviction, and a humble heart are key ingredients.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound expression of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance on Him. It directly attributes healing solely to Allah (antash-Shāfī - You are the Healer) and negates any other source of cure. The request for 'a healing that leaves no ailment behind' (shifā’an lā yughādiru saqaman) is a comprehensive plea for complete recovery, both physically and spiritually. Reciting this with a firm belief in Allah's power can bring immense comfort and strength during a difficult time, fostering patience and trust in His divine plan.

Source & Authentication

‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) complained of something, or a toothache, or a wound, he would recite these words into his hand and then rub it: ‘Bismillāhi, a'ūdhu billāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa mā uḥādhiru’ (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and what I caution against). And when he felt better, he would rub it with his hand and say: ‘Bismillāhir-raḥmānir-raḥīm. Allāhumma Rabban-nās, adh-hibil-ba’s, ishwfi antash-Shāfī, lā shifā’a illā shifā’uka, shifā’an lā yughādiru saqaman’ (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the suffering. Heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no ailment behind).
