Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5740

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقَةِ بَعْضِنَا، يُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا.

In the name of Allah, the soil of our land, mixed with the saliva of some of us, will cure our sick by the permission of our Lord.

Bismillahi, turbatu ardhina, biriqqati ba'dhina, yushfa saqeemunā, bi'idhn Rabbina.

When to Read

This dua is specifically for treating sicknesses, including ear ailments. When experiencing pain, discomfort, or any hearing issues, one can recite this dua while gently applying a mixture of soil and saliva to the affected area (if appropriate for the ailment and with caution), or simply recite it with earnest supplication for healing.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this method of seeking healing. It involves reciting the dua with firm belief in Allah's power to heal. Traditionally, it involved mixing clean soil with saliva (from the person reciting or the sick person) and applying it to the afflicted area. It's crucial to use clean soil and to ensure this method is suitable for the specific ailment. The intention is to combine the physical means with the spiritual reliance on Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This practice highlights the profound trust the Prophet ﷺ placed in Allah for all matters, including health. It teaches us that seeking cures should always be coupled with a sincere reliance on the Creator, who is the ultimate Healer. The hadith demonstrates a holistic approach to healing, integrating spiritual supplication with practical, albeit simple, physical remedies.

Source & Authentication

The wife of the Prophet ﷺ, 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated that when someone complained to the Prophet ﷺ about a wound or a burn, he would say, > **Arabic:** بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقَةِ بَعْضِنَا، يُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا. > **Translation:** 'In the name of Allah, the soil of our land, mixed with the saliva of some of us, will cure our sick by the permission of our Lord.' In another narration, it is mentioned that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to treat the injured with this dua, while saying: 'This is the saliva of some of us, and the soil of our land.' (Sahih Muslim 2194). This indicates the practical application of seeking Allah's cure.
