بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ
In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I find and what I fear.
Bismillahi, a'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir.
When to Read
This powerful dua is for anyone experiencing physical discomfort, whether it's a nagging headache, stomach pain, or any other ailment. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this when he himself felt pain. You can recite it when you first notice symptoms, or at any point during your illness, placing your hand on the area of pain.
How to Read
The practice taught by the Prophet ﷺ is to place your hand on the part of your body that hurts. Then, recite 'Bismillahi' (In the name of Allah) three times. After that, recite the full dua: 'A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir' (I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I find and what I fear) seven times. This physical action combined with the sincere invocation of Allah connects our faith to our physical experience of seeking healing.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a profound expression of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) while actively seeking a solution. By seeking refuge in Allah's power, we acknowledge that true healing comes only from Him. The repetition of seven times emphasizes sincerity and persistence in our supplication. It teaches us to turn to our Creator not just in times of ease, but especially when we are facing difficulties like sickness.

Hisham ibn Urwah narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far that he said: 'Ibn 'Abbas narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When a person visits a sick person whose time of death has not yet come, and he says seven times: 'As'alu Allah al-'Adheem Rabbal-'Arshil-'Adheem an yashfiya-ka (I ask Allah the Magnificent, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to heal you)', Allah will heal him from that illness." [Sunan Abi Dawud 3106, Sahih]. The dua in this entry is a separate, but related, supplication taught by the Prophet ﷺ for personal affliction. The Prophet ﷺ used to teach his Companions phrases to say when they felt pain. It was narrated that 'Uthman ibn Abi al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a pain he had felt in his body since he had become Muslim. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Place your hand on the part of your body where you feel pain and say: 'Bismillahi' (In the name of Allah) three times, and say seven times: 'A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir' (I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I find and what I fear)." 'Uthman said: I did that, and Allah removed the pain from my body, and I have continued to say it like that and I advise my brothers to say it like that.' [Sahih Muslim 2208]
