Sickness
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 2921

اللَّهُمَّ اشْفِ عَبْدَكَ يَنْكَأُ لَكَ عَدُوًّا أَوْ يَمُوتُ فِيهِ

O Allah, cure Your servant, who is wounded in Your cause, or dies in it.

Allahumma-shfi 'abdaka yanka'u laka 'aduwwan aw yamutu feehi

When to Read

This dua, while specific to those wounded in Allah's cause, carries a profound message of seeking Allah's healing for any ailment. When you're dealing with a broken bone, you can adapt its essence by sincerely asking Allah for complete recovery, for His divine touch to mend what is broken. Recite it during times of distress, after taking prescribed medication, or during your daily supplications when you feel the pain most acutely.

How to Read

With sincere intention and trust in Allah's power to heal. Place your hand gently over the injured area, or if that's not possible, focus your attention on it. Utter the words with humility, acknowledging that true healing comes only from Him. You can repeat it multiple times a day, especially after obligatory prayers.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication reflects a deep submission to Allah's will, even in times of physical trial. It reminds us that our bodies are ultimately His, and any suffering is an opportunity to turn to Him. By seeking His cure, we affirm our reliance on Him and acknowledge His absolute power over all matters, including our health. While this specific phrasing is related to those fighting for Allah's cause, the principle of asking Allah for healing from any affliction is a cornerstone of a believer's life, as the Quran states: 'And when I am ill, it is He who cures me' (Ash-Shu'ara 26:80).

Source & Authentication

The narration for this hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) visiting Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill. The Prophet (peace be upon him) made the following supplication: 'O Allah, cure Your servant, who is wounded in Your cause, or dies in it.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 2921). This indicates the Prophet's concern for the well-being of those who sacrifice for Islam and his direct appeal to Allah for their recovery.
