Dua for Protection from Illness During Travel

Sickness
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1543

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your Mightiness lest I be consumed from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi, wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'adhamatika an ughtala min tahti.

The specific pleas for protection from all directions and from being 'consumed from beneath' highlight the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ foresight and the depth of his supplication for safety during travel, a time when one might be more exposed to unforeseen dangers and illnesses.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to teach them (i.e., the companions) that in supplication they should say: 'O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your Mightiness lest I be consumed from beneath me.' (He added): 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: He (i.e., Allah's Messenger ﷺ) used to say this when he had mounted his camel to set out on a journey.'
