In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you, from every ailment that harms you, from the evil of every soul and envious eye. May Allah cure you, in the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you.
Bismillahi arqeeka min kulli dā'in yudheeka, wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'ayni ḥāsidin, Allāhu yashfeeka, bismillahi arqeeka.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel unwell, suspecting the cause might be from the evil eye or jealousy. It's also beneficial to recite it for children or loved ones who are ill. Make it a habit to recite it before sleeping, especially if you are concerned about such afflictions.
How to Read
Recite the dua with sincerity and conviction, placing your hand on the afflicted area if possible. Breathe gently over the area after reciting. You can also blow gently on water and drink it or use it for Wudu. The key is to have full belief in Allah's power to protect and heal.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful supplication taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to protect against harm, including the insidious effects of jealousy and the evil eye ('ayn). The Prophet ﷺ himself used to seek refuge in Allah using similar words for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them). This practice reinforces our reliance on Allah as the ultimate source of protection and healing, reminding us that no harm can befall us except by His decree.
Source & Authentication
‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ complained of something or when a place of his body was pricked by a thorn, he would recite over it: بـِسْمِ اللَّهِ، رُقْيَةُ عُـمَـرَاضٍ شَـتَّى، يَـشْـفِـيـكَ اللهُ، خُـذْ بَـأْسَـكَ، غُـفْـرَانَكَ. And when his illness increased, he used to recite it over himself and wipe his hands over his body. I (i.e. the narrator) recited it over myself when I was suffering from this disease, and it removed the disease. And when I was suffering from this disease, I used to recite it over myself and perform my (dry) ablution. And the recitation of the aforementioned hadith was recited by me to Abu Usamah (the narrator of this hadith) and he recited it over me. (The narrator continued:) ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill, he would recite the Mu'awwidhat (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) and then blow on his body. When his illness worsened, I used to recite them for him and wipe his hands over his body, seeking Allah's blessing. (Sahih Muslim 2192). The specific dua mentioned in the prompt is a variation also found in Sahih Muslim (2186) which is more direct for treating ailments, including those caused by the evil eye.
