O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering. Heal (us), for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, healing that leaves no ailment behind.
Allahumma Rabb an-nas, adh-hibil-ba's, ishfi antash-Shafi, la shifaa'a illa shifa'uka, shifaa'an la yughadiru saqaman
When to Read
This powerful supplication is for when you or a loved one is suffering from any illness, be it minor or severe. It’s especially potent when the pain feels overwhelming and the need for Allah's mercy is most keenly felt. Recite it with sincerity and conviction, placing your trust in Allah's ability to heal.
How to Read
Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on Allah's attributes as the Lord of all people and the Ultimate Healer. It is recommended to place your hand on the affected area while reciting, if applicable. Repeat it multiple times, with steadfastness, and combine it with seeking medical treatment. Remember the etiquettes of dua: facing the Qiblah (if possible), raising your hands, and supplicating with certainty that Allah will answer.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies profound Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) by acknowledging Him as the sole source of healing. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) during the illness of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), he stressed the healing power inherent in these words. It reminds us that while we seek means, ultimate reliance and hope rest with Allah. It's a supplication that removes not just the symptom, but the root of the sickness, by Allah's will.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to visit the sick, and he would invoke Allah for them with this dua: 'Allahumma Rabb an-nas, adh-hibil-ba's, ishfi antash-Shafi, la shifaa'a illa shifa'uka, shifaa'an la yughadiru saqaman.' (O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering. Heal (us), for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, healing that leaves no ailment behind.) Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that when the Prophet ﷺ fell ill, he would recite this dua over himself and blow (with his saliva) over his body. She also narrated that when Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, the Prophet ﷺ visited him and said, 'Allahumma ishfi Sa'dan, Allahumma ishfi Sa'dan, Allahumma ishfi Sa'dan' (O Allah, heal Sa'd. O Allah, heal Sa'd. O Allah, heal Sa'd.) – This refers to a slightly different wording, but the core principle of seeking Allah's healing remains. The primary dua provided here is the most comprehensive for general illness.
