بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقِ بَعْضِنَا، يُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا
In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land, and the saliva of some of us, our sick will be healed by the permission of our Lord.
Bismillahi, turbatu ardina, biriqi ba'dina, yushfa saqeemuna, bi'idhni rabbina
When to Read
This powerful dua is best recited when you can gently apply a mixture of soil and saliva (if possible, or just soil) to the forehead of your sick parent. It's a supplication rooted in the Prophet's ﷺ personal example, showing care and seeking Allah's direct intervention for healing. You can also recite it at any time, directing your pleas to Allah for your parent's recovery.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua in a specific context of healing. If you can, find some clean soil, mix it with a little saliva (your own or that of the patient), and gently place it on your parent's forehead while reciting the dua. The intention is to combine the physical act with sincere supplication. Even if you cannot perform the physical act, reciting the dua with heartfelt earnestness is a direct plea to Allah. Remember to maintain sincerity, focus, and unwavering trust in Allah's ability to heal.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies the profound Islamic principle of seeking cure through the means Allah has provided, coupled with absolute reliance on Him. It's a tangible expression of love and concern for a sick parent, mirroring the Prophet's ﷺ own actions. By using this dua, we not only seek Allah's mercy for our parents but also remind ourselves of His power over all matters, including life and health. It strengthens our connection to the Sunnah and fosters a sense of community by acknowledging the 'soil of our land' and 'saliva of some of us' as potentially blessed means.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet ﷺ used to visit some people of the family who were ill. When he visited an ill person, he would say: 'O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the disease, cure him and grant him recovery, for there is no cure except Your cure. A cure that leaves no disease.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5675). In another narration, when someone complained of a wound or a cut while on a journey, the Prophet ﷺ placed his forefinger on the ground and raised the other, saying: 'In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land, and the saliva of some of us, our sick will be healed by the permission of our Lord.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5741).
