O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, and join me with the Highest Companion.

Allahumma-ghfir li, warhamni, wa-Alhiqni bir-rafiqil-a'la.

When to Read

This profound dua is specifically for a Muslim facing the final moments of life, or for those supporting a terminally ill loved one. It's a beautiful supplication to recite when death is near, acknowledging our dependence on Allah's mercy and seeking His ultimate companionship.

How to Read

This dua should be recited with sincere hope and conviction, focusing on Allah's boundless mercy. It's uttered in the heart and on the lips, perhaps while holding the hand of the person who is passing. The aim is to fill these final moments with remembrance of Allah and a plea for His forgiveness and closeness.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, in his final days and moments, constantly turned to Allah, seeking His forgiveness and mercy. This specific dua encapsulates his final supplications, showing us the importance of seeking Allah's companionship in the ultimate journey. It reminds us that even in the face of death, our ultimate hope lies in Allah's grace and His promise of the Paradise with the righteous.

Source & Authentication

The mother of the believers, 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), said: 'During the illness of which he died, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Allahumma-ghfir li, warhamni, wa-Alhiqni bir-rafiqil-a'la.' (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, and join me with the Highest Companion).' I (Aishah) said to myself: 'He has been given the choice, and he has chosen the Highest Companion.' So, we understood that he was being given the choice to die and the choice to live.
