Dua for Strength When Aspirations Fall Short

Sadness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 4002

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this when disappointment weighs heavily on your heart, after striving hard for something and it doesn't materialize. It's a powerful way to shift your focus back to Allah, the source of all success and true contentment, especially when your own plans seem to have failed.

How to Read

Understand the profound humility in the opening phrases – acknowledging Allah's absolute control over your destiny. Then, reflect deeply on the names and attributes of Allah as you make your supplication. The request is not just for the sadness to pass, but for the divine words of the Qur'an to become the source of renewal and peace within you.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive plea for emotional and spiritual healing. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'springtime of the heart,' it signifies a desire for renewal, growth, and life to return to areas where sadness and disappointment have taken root. It directly addresses the removal of grief and worry, offering a path to inner peace through reliance on the Divine.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.'
