Dua for Solace When Relationships Break

Sadness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 23914

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the banisher of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammaita bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a companion who was suffering from anxiety and grief, directly addresses the pain caused by emotional distress. Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a companion who was suffering from anxiety and grief. He said to him: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you utter them, Allah will remove your anxiety and pay your debt?' The companion said: 'Yes, of course.' The Prophet ﷺ then said: 'Say: O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the banisher of my anxiety.' The companion then went and recited these words, and Allah (SWT) removed his anxiety and paid off his debt. (Reported by Ahmad and authenticated by Al-Albani as Hasan)
