Dua for Sadness When Facing the Weight of Parental Expectations

Sadness
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3540

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil ghaybi 'indak, an taj'alal Qur'ana rabee'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaaba hammi.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, focusing on the meaning of each word. Imagine yourself presenting your situation to Allah, acknowledging His absolute power and wisdom. Virtues & Benefits

This profound dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, offers immense relief by seeking solace and guidance directly from Allah. It helps shift our focus from worldly pressures to the divine, reminding us that true peace comes from our connection with the Qur'an and reliance on Allah. Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah: I went to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in a mosque, standing and praying. He was praying in a standing position, which he did not do except when he was in a new area. He was praying with a group of people. I stood behind them and prayed, and then he turned to me and greeted me with peace. He asked me: 'What prevented you from joining the prayer with them?' I said: 'I prayed in my place.' He said: 'You have done well.' Then he said: 'What do you want?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I want to ask you for something.' He said: 'What is it?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I want to be saved from every evil and be granted every good.' He said: 'That is a difficult task, but if you know it, then that is what you want. O Allah, I ask You for guidance and steadfastness, and I ask You for the will to be thankful and to worship You well. And I ask You for a sincere tongue and a sound heart. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know. And I ask You from the good of all that You know. And I ask You for the highest levels of Paradise and the words that would lead to attaining it. And I ask You to decree for me what is good. And I ask You to make my decree beneficial. And I ask You to make my decree beneficial. And I ask You to make my decree beneficial.' Then he said to me: 'Ask for the like of that, for indeed the slave asks his Lord for the like of that.' Then he said: 'Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil ghaybi 'indak, an taj'alal Qur'ana rabee'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaaba hammi.' (O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.) So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he taught me that and told me to learn it and teach it to my family.'
