O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, from being overwhelmed by debt and overwhelmed by men (people).

‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to teach them to seek refuge in Allah from the following words, just as he used to teach them a Surah from the Qur'an: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief, and from him who is in disbelief, from poverty and from what signifies poverty, and from oppression and from what signifies oppression (i.e. wrong deeds). O Allah, I seek refuge in You from ignorance and from him who is ignorant of me, and from him who is ignorant of me, and from him who is ignorant of me. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from him who is in disbelief, from poverty and from what signifies poverty, and from oppression and from what signifies oppression. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, and from the torment of Hell-fire, and from the torment in the grave. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of the wealthy, and from the evil of the poor. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what is in my ears, and the evil of what is in my sight, and the evil of what is in my sexual organ. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what is in my heart, and from the evil of what is in my soul. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what is in my legs, and from the evil of what is in my tongue. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what is in my private parts. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from being overwhelmed by debt and overwhelmed by men (people). O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of hearing, and the evil of seeing, and the evil of speaking, and the evil of my private parts. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of this world and the Hereafter, and from the evil of what is in my two hands and what is behind me. O Allah, grant me my soul's piety and purify it, for You are the Best of those who purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from a heart that does not feel humble, and from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a prayer that is not answered, and from knowledge that is not beneficial. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from these four: from the evil of the eyes, and from the evil of the tongue, and from the evil of the heart, and from the evil of the desires. O Allah, grant me well-being in my body, grant me well-being in my hearing, grant me well-being in my sight. There is no god but You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and debt. He said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'A debtor does not cease to be in debt, though he should be owing so much that he would have no means to pay it, until he is made to pay it.'
