Dua for Sadness and Distress

Sadness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is inevitable. Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitubika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Ahmad narrated from Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no one who is afflicted by anxiety and grief, and then says: [the dua above], except that Allah (SWT) will remove his anxiety and grief, and replace his sorrow with joy.' It was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He replied: 'Yes, it is essential for the one who hears them to learn them.' (Hasan by some scholars due to supporting narrations).
