Sahih HadithThe Book of Remembrance, Supplication, Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness 2713

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, Splitter of the seed and the date-stone, Revealer of the Torah and the Injeel and the Furqan (Qur'an), I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything whose forelock You have grasped. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; and You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; and You are the Manifest, so there is nothing above You; and You are the Intimate, so there is nothing closer than You. Relieve us of debt and enrich us from poverty.

Allahumma Rabbas-samawatis-sab'i wa Rabbul-'Arshil-'Azim, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shai'in, Faliqal-habbi wan-nawa, wa munzilatt-Tawrati wal-Injeeli wal-Furqan, a'udhu bika min sharri kulli shai'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma Antal-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shai'un, wa Antal-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shai'un, wa Antaz-Zahiru falaysa fawqaka shai'un, wa Antal-Batinu falaysa dunaka shai'un. Iqdhi 'annad-dayna wa aghnina minal-faqr.

When to Read

This profound supplication, though traditionally part of the Prophet's ﷺ nightly routine before sleep, is a beautiful and powerful dua to recite whenever you feel a sense of spiritual disquiet, loneliness, or when your connection to Allah feels distant. It's especially comforting when you are overwhelmed by the feeling that you are falling short, or that Allah's immense pleasure and closeness are beyond your reach. Recite it when you need to reaffirm Allah's absolute nearness and control over all affairs.

How to Read

Approach this dua with humility and deep contemplation of Allah's magnificent attributes. As you recite each Name – Al-Awwal (The First), Al-Akhir (The Last), Az-Zahir (The Manifest), and especially Al-Batin (The Intimate, The Inner) – let their meanings permeate your heart. Focus on the truth that Allah is closer to you than anything, encompassing all existence, and that no matter how distant you might feel, He is ever-present and aware. Sincerity and conviction in these truths will deepen your connection and bring immense comfort.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this comprehensive dua offers immense spiritual comfort and benefit. It is a powerful affirmation of Tawhid, reminding us of Allah's absolute Lordship and unique attributes, which strengthens our faith and dependence on Him alone. By declaring Allah as Al-Batin, it powerfully dispels feelings of spiritual distance and loneliness, assuring us of His constant and intimate presence. It also seeks His protection from all forms of evil and asks for relief from worldly burdens like debt and poverty, which often contribute to spiritual and emotional distress. This dua helps cultivate a sense of peace, security, and renewed hope in Allah's mercy and help.
