O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they cover, Lord of the seven earths and all they hold, Lord of the devils and all they lead astray, Lord of the wind and all it drives, I ask You for the good of this village and the good of its people and the good of all that is within it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of its people, and the evil of all that is within it.
Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa Rabba al-aradeena as-sab'i wa ma aqallat, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adallat, wa Rabba ar-reehi wa ma sarrat, as'aluka khayra hadhihi al-qaryah, wa khayra ahliha, wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.
When to Read
This powerful dua is taught to us by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for when we enter a new town or village. It's incredibly relevant when feeling the sting of separation from your home and homeland. Recite it when you arrive in a new place, feeling the weight of distance from familiar surroundings and loved ones. It's a way to seek Allah's protection and blessings in your new environment, while acknowledging the longing for what you've left behind.
How to Read
As with all duas, sincerity and heartfelt intention are key. Face the direction of the new place you have entered, raise your hands slightly (as if making supplicaton), and recite this dua with a clear voice, focusing on each word. It’s a practice that connects you to the Sunnah and seeks Allah's care in a tangible way, making the feeling of displacement a little easier to bear.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers comprehensive protection and seeks the best for the new environment you've entered. By asking for the 'good of this village, and the good of its people, and the good of all that is within it,' you're essentially seeking Allah's favor to make your stay pleasant and beneficial. Simultaneously, seeking refuge from its 'evil' wards off potential harm.
