Dua for Loneliness and Sadness on a Friday

Sadness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3701

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or that You have taught to any of Your creation, or that You have revealed in Your Book, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness, and a remover of my distress.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard a man supplicating during the prayer and said: 'This man is asking Allah with His Most Great Name, by which when He is asked, He gives, and when He is supplicated, He answers.' And another man asked him: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is His Most Great Name?' He said: 'It is incumbent upon you to adhere to the Name of Allah and the Name of the Most Merciful. Then he mentioned a man who was asking him, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: 'Ask me by virtue of the Name of Allah, by which if He is asked, He gives, and if He is supplicated, He answers.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me it.' He said: 'It is incumbent upon you to adhere to the Name of Allah and the Name of the Most Merciful.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'What do you say?' He said: 'I say, O Allah, I ask You by Your Name, the One, the Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who was not begotten and was not begotten of, and there is none comparable to Him.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed, you have asked Allah by His Greatest Name, the One Who, when asked by it, gives, and when supplicated, He answers.' Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'And I have heard of a man from my Ummah who is saying on the Day of Resurrection, perhaps ten times: 'O Allah, forgive me, if You wish.' Then Allah says: 'I have forgiven you, if I wish, I have forgiven you, if I wish, I have forgiven you, if I wish.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You by Your Name, the Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who was not begotten and was not begotten of, and there is none comparable to Him.' He said: 'Then Allah turned to him and said: 'Have you remembered My Greatest Name?' He said: 'O Allah, I have not heard anything greater than it.' He said: 'You have asked by the Name of Allah, the One, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who was not begotten and was not begotten of, and there is none comparable to Him. You have asked by virtue of it if you ask, and you supplicated by virtue of it if you supplicate. There is no god but Allah.' Another hadith mentions the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaching a man who came to him and said: 'I am distressed and my debts are many.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Shall I not teach you a saying that you may supplicate Allah with it, and if your debts were as much as a mountain, Allah would pay them off for you?' He said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, and I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men.' He said: 'So I did that, and Allah Almighty removed my grief and paid off my debt.' (Sahih Muslim 2706)
