Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2050

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have made it inclined towards, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have made it inclined towards.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabaltaha 'alayh, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alayh

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to someone getting married, is a comprehensive plea for goodness and protection. When facing separation, it asks Allah to guide the situation towards what is best for both individuals, seeking refuge from any potential harm or negative outcomes that might arise from the separation. It reminds us that even in sorrow, Allah's wisdom and mercy are vast, and He can turn hardship into ease.

Source & Authentication

ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ reported that he was told by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): 'When you marry a woman, take her by the forelock and pray for blessing in her and ask Allah for its good and for the good of what you have taken her with. And when you buy a slave, take him by the forelock and ask for the blessing of Allah, and ask for its good and for the good of what you have taken him with.' This hadith is often understood in the context of marriage itself, but the principle of seeking Allah's blessing and refuge from evil applies to all significant relationships and situations. The specific wording about asking for the 'goodness of what you have taken her with' can be extended to the essence of the relationship and its outcomes.
