In the name of Allah, with the dust of our earth and the saliva of some of us, may our sick be healed by the permission of our Lord.

When to Read
This dua is recited when a child is unwell or experiencing a spiritual ailment that manifests as sadness or distress. It is a supplication for healing, seeking Allah's intercession through the means taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite this dua and then place his hand on the place of pain or illness on the child's body. The act of placing his hand symbolized seeking direct healing from Allah and invoking blessings. It's a practice rooted in compassion and reliance on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies the Islamic principle of seeking healing through prescribed means, acknowledging Allah as the ultimate Healer. The Prophet's ﷺ action of using the earth's dust and his own saliva (which symbolizes a trace of himself, a human) signifies a natural, gentle approach to healing, asking for Allah's mercy and cure. It teaches us reliance on Allah (tawakkul) while actively seeking a remedy.

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When any person among them had a complaint of the latter (i.e. fever) he would say: 'Our Lord! who art in the heaven, hallowed be thy name; Thy command is executed in heaven and on earth; forgive us our sins, and our errors, and our evil deeds... (reciting the whole hadith about the dua for fever, ending with the verse). When he complained of pain, which had not occurred for him at night, Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) would say: ‘In the name of Allah, the dust of our earth and the saliva of some of us may cure our patient, with the permission of our Lord.’ - Sahih Muslim 2204 c. It was narrated from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when a person complained to the Prophet (ﷺ) of not remembering his medicines, he said: 'When any one of you complains of pain in his body, let him put his hand where the pain is and let him say: Bismillah (I begin with the name of Allah) three times, and say: A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru (I seek refuge in Allah and in His Power from the evil of what I feel and what I dread) seven times.' - Sahih Muslim 2202. And when he complained of fever or some other illness, he (the Prophet) would say: 'Our Lord, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your command is in the heavens and the earth, Your mercy is in the heavens and the earth, forgive us our sins and our errors, You are the Lord of the good. Send down mercy from Your mercy and healing from Your healing, so that it is cured from this illness.' - Sahih Muslim 2204 b.
