Seeking Forgiveness (Istighfar) for Increasing Sustenance (Rizq)

Rizq & Provision
QuranQuran 2063

And I said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain] upon you in [continuous] showering. And give you relief with wealth and children and make for you gardens and make for you rivers.'

Fa qultu istaghfirū rabbakum, innahu kāna ghaffārā. Yurṣil as-samā'a 'alaykum midrārā. Wa yumdudkum bi-amwālin wa banīna wa yaj'al lakum jannātin wa yaj'al lakum anhārā.

When to Read

This ayah isn't a specific dua to be recited at a certain time, but rather a divine promise linked to the act of seeking forgiveness. We can reflect on these verses and make istighfar throughout our day, especially when we feel our provisions are limited or when seeking blessings in our wealth, children, and overall well-being. It's a general principle for seeking abundance from Allah.

How to Read

The emphasis here is on the *act* of seeking Allah's forgiveness (istighfar). While there are specific phrases for istighfar, such as 'Astaghfirullah' (I seek Allah's forgiveness), the intention and sincerity are paramount. We should turn to Allah, acknowledging our sins, seeking His mercy, and expressing our hope for His blessings. This involves both verbal utterance and a heartfelt turning towards Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This ayah from Surah Nuh (Noah) clearly links consistent istighfar with tangible blessings from Allah. The promise includes: * **Abundant Rain:** 'He will send [rain] upon you in [continuous] showering.' This can be interpreted literally as rain for crops and sustenance, and metaphorically as an abundance of Allah's mercy and blessings. * **Wealth and Children:** 'And give you relief with wealth and children.' This signifies an increase in worldly provisions and a strong, blessed progeny. * **Gardens and Rivers:** 'And make for you gardens and make for you rivers.' This points to lush, prosperous environments and the flow of blessings in our lives.
